Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo to become their next manager, according to ESPN.

James Olley writes: “Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Nuno Espirito Santo as they look to bring their chaotic managerial search to an end, sources have told ESPN.

“Nuno has not been offered the job as of yet but positive discussions have taken place in recent days with incoming managing director of football Fabio Paratici thought to be particularly keen on his appointment.

“However, other candidates are still under consideration with Ajax’s Erik ten Hag not entirely ruled out and Brighton’s Graham Potter another name on their radar.”

Daniel Levy promptly chose to sack Jose Mourinho after a poor season but the Spurs chairman is now having a nightmare in naming his successor.

High-profile managers like Paulo Fonseca and Antonio Conte have outright rejected the offer while a few others have chosen to look the other way.

But Nuno Espirito Santo might be the ideal candidate to sit in the Spurs dugout next season since he is currently without a job meaning negotiations with him will be fairly easy and straight-forward.

The Portuguese worked wonders with the Wolves team since taking charge of them in 2017 and in these four years, he was in charge for 199 games making him the fifth longest serving manager of the post-war era, as per the club’s official website.

Nuno Espirito Santo is someone who can work with a limited transfer budget so Daniel Levy will have one area sorted if the 47-year-old becomes the next Spurs boss. But right now what the Spurs fans want is to get back into the Champions League and possibly challenge for the Premier League title.

Just a few seasons ago, Tottenham Hotspur were playing in the Champions League final but since then they have seen a massive dip in form and next season they will be playing in the Europa Conference League.

UPDATE:

Football London’s Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold is claiming that Nuno Espirito Santo could be announced as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager next week.

He wrote on Twitter: “Understand that, barring a complete about turn (and we’ve had enough of those in these 67 days), the former Wolves boss could be in place at Tottenham next week just days before pre-season starts at Hotspur Way.”
