Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in order to get more game time and last season he kind of achieved that by playing 27 league games.

This season though under Frank Lampard, the forward has been completely frozen out and so far he has played only 120 minutes in the Premier League for the Blues.

Lampard has chosen youngster Tammy Abraham as his first-choice striker and whenever he cannot do the job, the manager has looked to Michy Batshuayi for a way out.

But strangely enough, Olivier Giroud has still gotten a call-up to the French national side during the current international break.

The forward’s call-up has surely raised a lot of eyebrows given that he has played so little football but Didier Deschamps has now come out to explain why he chose to bring in Olivier Giroud.

“Maybe that means something but it’s mostly what happened on the pitch that means something,” Deschamps said.

“If he is the one I used the most, do not forget either the ratio of matches and goals.

“There are not many in front of him in terms of goals in the history of the France team. He did the right thing, he answered the trust.”

Olivier Giroud has done nothing but warm the benches for Chelsea during the past couple of weeks and now reports are suggesting that he is looking to move out of Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window.

It is still unclear as to which club he wants to join but some rumours claim he wants to head back to France next year since clubs like Marseille and Lyon had previously shown interest in signing him.

Olivier Giroud is out of contract next summer meaning the Blues should not have any problems letting the forward leave in January but if Chelsea’s transfer ban is not lifted then we don’t think Lampard will risk losing him.
