The 2018-19 Premier League season kicked off this Friday with Manchester United taking on Leicester City at home and with that the weekends are back to normal for every football fan.

But if you manage to look beyond the games then you will notice that a huge amount of entertainment can be found off the field as well.

And leave it to former Arsenal midfielder and current pundit Paul Merson to provide a fair bit of that entertainment.

Amongst the fans who regularly tune into Sky Sports, Paul Merson is known as the man with all the whacky predictions. But this time it seems that the 50-year-old has even outdone himself.

On Sky Sports, Merson was analysing the transfer business that every Premier League club had done during the summer during which he went on to say:

“I like Ben Foster, he’s a top goalkeeper, but I really worry for Watford.

“I thought Nordin Amrabat was one of their best players last season, I thought he played well a lot of time. Gerard Deulofeu, one minute he’s great and the next, he’s not.

“He’s a five or a nine – you never get that consistent seven every week. Foster will save them points, there’s no question, but I think they’re in a relegation battle”

At first glance, this might look a very normal analysis but if you can manage to do a bit of research(unless you are Watford fan) then you will see that Nordin Amrabat actually played just three games for Watford in the whole season.

Amrabat played only the first month in England after which he was loaned out to Spanish club Leganes for the rest of the season.

This though is not the only bit of blunder that Paul Merson made during the weekend as he failed to pronounce the name of Chelsea’s new goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

In trying to pronounce his name, Merson said: “Lucky! £72m?!”

This though is not the first time Paul Merson has made such a blunder but if this is the scenario in only the first weekend then image what we might see during the course of the whole Premier League season.
