West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang is expected to leave the club at the start of the new year – according to reports.

Pedro Obiang joined West Ham from Sampdoria on a four-year contract but in his three full seasons at the club, the central midfielder has not quite been able to create a niche for himself in the first XI.

The played 71 games for the Hammers in the Premier League meaning he has featured in about half of the Premier League games every season.

And now reports suggest that Pedro Obiang could be on his way back to Italy.

Serie A side Atlanta are said to be interested in the services of the central midfielder and latest rumours suggest Obiang could move back to Italy as early as January.

Pedro Obiang plays primarily as a central midfielder and can also play in defensive midfield. But as things stand Manuel Pellegrini has gotten both those positions fully covered.

The Hammers have the likes of Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere who play in central midfielder while Declan Rice has made the defensive midfield area his own.

In such a scenario, the Hammers are doing the perfect thing by cashing in on Pedro Obiang.

But are the London club quoting enough?

The Hammers reportedly paid somewhere around £6 million for the services of the midfielder and they are planning to sell him at the exact same price.

Pedro Obiang’s current contract at West Ham will run out in 2022 so don’t see why the club are in such a hurry to offload him.

Pellegrini can easily hold on to him until the summer transfer window and possibly squeeze out £10 million for him.
