The Premier League is planning to changes to their gameplay in order to stop players from cheating during the game.

The Premier League fans have complained that time-wasting during the games is a major problem and now the international FA board are trying to take steps in order to counter that.

An IFAB source said(as per the Times): “We all want to crack down on major time-wasting and increase playing time but the fundamental question is how we do it.”

“A rule to say there should be no substitutions during added on time is an interesting one,

“Referees add on 30 seconds for everyone but in practice, it can eat up a lot more time than that.

“There would, however, need to be trials to see if there are any unforeseen ramifications.

“Would it be fair, for example, if a player suffered a broken leg in injury time and couldn’t be replaced? But you already have the case where they couldn’t be replaced anyway if the three substitutes had already been used.”

As per the report, the average playing time for a Premier League match is 55 minutes 9 seconds during the current season and the IFAB are throwing in ideas to make the game faster paced.

And one of the options that the IFAB has suggested is to ban substitutions during injury time – a ploy used by almost every manager to slow the game down.

Another option suggested by the board is to allow goal kicks to be passed to players in their own penalty area.

Last year the IFAB also suggested that timekeeping should be taken away from referees – a plan that was eventually scrapped.

As per the Times, “In Germany referees have been advised to pay attention to how much added time they are calculating, which has resulted in the amount of injury time rising by 50 per cent in recent seasons.”

But in the Premier League, no such instruction has been provided to the referees who still add 30 seconds for each substitution as well as each goal scored.
