Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard had been trying really hard to sign Pedro Chirivella from Liverpool this summer but the Gers seem to have missed out on the 23-year-old.

The midfielder is set to be a free agent at the end of this season which is why Gerrard was so eager to bring him to Ibrox. And at one point, everyone was certain the former Liverpool man would use his good connections and persuade Pedro to move to Scotland.

But as far as 20 Minutes are concerned, Pedro Chirivella is not joining Rangers but is instead on his way to Ligue 1 side FC Nantes.

The report claims: “Wednesday, according to information from 20 Minutes, it is a second recruit who is expected at the Jonelière to pass his medical examination. This is the Spanish midfielder from Liverpool Pedro Chirivella (23 years since Saturday), who is free.

“Despite an offer to extend the five-year contract of the English club in which he played since 2013, the one who chained the loans in the Netherlands – Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II – then in Spain in Extremadura (second division ) must commit for three years with FC Nantes.”

The 23-year-old joined Liverpool in 2013 but since then all he has done is move around Europe on various loan spells. And while Liverpool were ready to offer him a new deal, the midfielder rejected it as he wanted to play for regularly.

Everyone thought, this dream of his would come true at Rangers but clearly, Pedro Chirivella is not too keen to play in the SPFL. He is expected to have a medical with Nantes this week meaning Gerrard has no time to try and convince the midfielder to change his mind.

But despite missing out on the Liverpool man, we do not think Gerrard will be too concerned since the Gers are already eyeing a move for Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson and the player is himself ardent on moving to Ibrox.

This will be a much easier buy for the Teddy Bears but they will have to pay around €1.5 million as transfer fee since Ferguson still has four years left on his current deal.
