Rangers FC have been constantly claiming they have proof that the recent SPFL resolution voting to declare the season ended was not done in the right manner. And hence they want an independent investigation.

The Gers claim a whistleblower has given them concrete evidence of foul play but they are yet to come forward with any documents despite numerous requests from many ex-players and pundits.

SPFL chairman, Murdoch MacLennan had even said: “It is difficult to understand why Mr Park should not wish to share this alleged material with me.”

But as per Rangers FC, there have been a breakdown of mutual trust which is why they are not willing to make this evidence public as of now.

Some people have come out to slam SPFL over their handling of the whole situation and now Steven Gerrard has also joined the list.

“From afar, the SPFL looks an absolute mess,” Gerrard told Sky Sports, via The Guardian. “I’m watching ex-players, pundits and reading media and it’s getting absolutely battered from pillar to post for the way it’s handled things, certainly in the last couple of days.

“There are so many accusations and doubts and questions about this institution, he (SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan) needs to allow an independent investigation… to prove everyone wrong and make sure there is fairness and transparency across the board in Scotland.

“I’m listening to ex-players, pundits, I’m reading media and it’s [the SPFL] getting absolutely battered from pillar to post the way it’s handled things in the past couple of days.

“The SPFL have said they’re open to an internal investigation but I don’t agree with that because you shouldn’t really be allowed to mark your own homework. If you mark your own homework, you’re always going to come top of the class. There’s not going to be any questions asked.

“For me, there needs to be an expert; an investigator or a forensic investigator, who can come in and look at everything across the board with the SPFL. And if everything’s clean, fair and transparent then the media and ex-players can’t slam the organisation.”

SPFL though have gotten the required number of votes needed to end the season right now and they have already started the process of wrapping up the various leagues.

The ending of the Premiership though will require permission from UEFA and there have been some whispers that Rangers FC might seek the help of the governing body of European football to halt SPFL’s plans.

UEFA is not a very big fan of this decision to wrap up the season right now as they had made it clear in the case of the Belgian Pro League and Rangers FC are hoping that they will take their acquisition seriously.

And if this does happen then it will be more headaches for Celtic since they will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the title.
