Rangers FC have signed the likes of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson during the summer transfer window but Steven Gerrard is still eyeing to bring in a couple of more defensive reinforcements.

According to reports, the Gers boss wants to sign Jake Cooper from Milwall but the Championship side are proving to be a tough nut to crack.

So far Rangers have made to bids for the 23-year-old defender but both have them have been swiftly turned down by Milwall but it seems like Steven Gerrard is not done yet.

As per the reports, Rangers’ last bid was in the region of 3 million pounds but that too surprisingly did not break down Milwall and now the Scottish Sun are reporting that the Light Blues are preparing a third bid.

The news claim that Rangers are locked in talks with Milwall over the transfer of Jake Cooper and the Ibrox outfit are pretty confident that the Championship side will agree to sell the player by the end of this week.

The Old Firm club have Katic and Goldson who are going to act as the primary centre-back pairing during the 2018-19 season meaning that Jake Cooper will be more of a backup option

So if we were to analyze the third bid for Jake Cooper then it would effectively have to be above 3 million pounds – the last rejected bid which we feel might be a bit too much especially for a player who might not be a first-team regular.

But we can see where Steven Gerrard’s desperation is coming from.

The Light Blues have already sold off Bruno Alves and David Bates earlier this month and Fabio Cardoso is also expected to move out of Ibrox in the coming few weeks.

And once Cardoso exits the club, Steven Gerrard’s options at the back will dry down and maybe that is why the manager is desperate to get his hands on Jake Cooper.
