Former Rangers FC defender Bruno Alves has revealed that he has gotten the green light to kick Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alves was released by Rangers last week after a disappointing season at Scotland and now the 36-year-old has gone back to Italy and joined Serie A side Parma.

And his longtime mate and Portugal teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo has just moved to Juventus from Real Madrid.

Bruno Alves has revealed that he is relishing the chance to play against Cristiano Ronaldo but has also ensured that the competition will be fierce.

“I was invited to come along with Cristiano when he arrived in Italy by his agent Jorge Mendes,” the 36-year-old said.

“We had a meal and I told him about what to expect in Italy.

“What I can say is he will be a winner, just like he was at Manchester United and Real Madrid. He is highly motivated to do well and he will.

“It will be funny to play against him this season, but I have done it before when I was at Porto and we played United.

“In fact during our meal, I asked his mother if I had permission to kick him when we played this season… she agreed!

“But it won’t make any difference to our friendship.”

Bruno Alves joined Rangers last summer on a two-year deal but the centre-back failed to make any sort of impact at Ibrox. And as soon as new manager Steven Gerrard signed the likes of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic this summer, Alves was promptly sold off to Serie A side Parma.

Bruno Alves said: “I am really looking forward to the challenge at Parma.

“Of course it will be tough as a side newly promoted to Serie A, but I am sure we will do well and I can’t wait to play for them.”
