Rangers FC take on St Mirren in the Premiership this weekend and the manager has confirmed that winger Ryan Kent will not be available for selection.

The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines for over a month after picking up a hamstring injury while playing against Lyon in the Europa League. But some rumours had claimed that he will be fit to play on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard though has made it clear that the St Mirren game will come too early for the former Liverpool man.

“We’ve had to slow down on Ryan, slightly,” he said as per RangersTV. “He had a decent hamstring injury in there in a real tricky area and when we’ve been really close to having him back in there with the team, we’ve had a little signal that we’ve had to come back off him for maybe three to four or maybe five days.

“We’re hoping to have him available around the Aberdeen game but if not, it’ll be the one after [Motherwell away].”

Rangers news: Will Gerrard miss Ryan Kent on Sunday?

Ryan Kent had played in five Premiership games, assisting two goals before he picked up the injury and to be honest, he was not in the best of forms during the first few weeks of the season.

Rangers FC have done perfectly well without the left-winger so his absence will not be too big of an issue for the manager.

St Mirren go into this game not having lost in their previous five league matches so they’ll definitely have their tails up. But the Gers have enough quality amongst their ranks to be able to get past them on Sunday.

Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi played on the wings against Brondby in midweek and the pair are expected to hold onto their place for the weekend’s clash as well.
