Rangers were scheduled to take on Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup last week but now that the match has been cancelled, the Gers chose to play a friendly.

The Teddy Bears played a home game versus Finnish side HJK Helsinki and many fans are left a bit confused.

Most people are wondering why this match has been played more so during the middle of the season.

Well, this game has been on the cards for a really long time – more specifically when Alfredo Morelos joined Rangers.

Alfredo Morelos moved to Rangers from HJK Helsinki during the summer of 2017 during which both the clubs had agreed upon playing a friendly.

And this match is just the completion of the agreement.

Rangers released an official statement regarding the game, which read:

“The match, which will kick-off at noon, was agreed upon the transfer of Alfredo Morelos from HJK to Gers last summer, and the timing will provide a good warm-up for Steven Gerrard’s side ahead of their return to league action at Kilmarnock three days later.

“Helsinki will use the game as part of a short training camp as they prepare for the 2019 Veikkausliga, with the Finnish top flight running as a summer season.”

Alfredo Morelos had been in tremendous form ever since he joined the Ibrox outfit and last season he was a rare bright spark in an otherwise poor season for Rangers.

This season too, the Colombian has continued his fine run scoring 20 goals and providing 10 assists in just 34 games.

Rangers’ Scottish Cup game vs Cowdenbeath has now been scheduled for the end of the month.
