Barcelona have shown interest in signing Everton’s Amadou Onana but as per a report in Foot Mercato, Man United are going to challenge for the midfielder as well.
Everton signed Amadou Onana from Lille in 2022 but due to their financial issues, the Toffees are now willing to cash in on the 22-year-old during the January window.
Barcelona have lost Gavi to a knee injury which is why they are interested in Onana and the rumours are suggesting that the Catalans have made contact with the player’s representatives over the weekend.
Amadou Onana has done really well for Everton over these one-and-a-half seasons and given the midfield crisis that Ten Hag is having, Man United have decided to challenge Barcelona in this transfer race.
Everton reportedly want around €60 million for the central midfielder which is within Manchester United’s reach and if they can get rid of Casemiro then they will surely go all out for Amadou Onana.
Casemiro has seen a dip in form this campaign and there are reports that Ten Hag wants to get rid of him in January and even Sofyan Amrabat has failed to live up to the hype. Young Kobbie Mainoo has had to step up but the academy graduate doesn’t have the experience to play in the No 6 role throughout the second half of the season.
To make matters worse, along with Casemiro, Eriksen and Mason Mount are currently out injured which has made the signing of a central midfielder a priority for the United manager.
United have made some poor transfer decisions in the past and spending €60 million on Amadou Onana could be another addition to the list but with the number of injuries that the club have right now, they have no other option but to back their manager with a new CDM at the start of the new year.
Barcelona are one step ahead of Manchester United in this transfer race and even the Belgium international will want to join the Catalans over a move to Old Trafford so United have their work cut out if they are serious about landing the 22-year-old.
