Southampton suffered a shock loss at the hands of Aston Villa and they could slip up once again when they face Newcastle United in their next outing.

The Saints were in a brilliant run of form up until the 4-0 loss to Villa and given how good Newcastle have been in recent weeks, Hassenhuttl’s side will have an uphill task at picking up all three points in midweek.

Southampton are undefeated in their last 10 home matches in the Premier League so they will be confident going into this game but the Magpies have gotten their act together under Eddie Howe so we expect this one to be a thrilling and closely fought contest.

Newcastle United are yet to taste defeat in 2022 but given how the Saints have been at home this season, we expect Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side to nick this one courtesy of a slender lead.

Southampton’s team news vs Newcastle United:

The Saints have several injuries going into the Newcastle United game with the likes of Nathan Tella, Lyanco and Alex McCarthy all ruled out for the midweek clash.

Neither of them will be fit in time to make it into the matchday squad but there is hope over the fitness of Shane Long who is recovering from a knock.

Mohamed Salisu should return from injury and the defender will come straight back into the starting line up, replacing Jack Stephens.

Kyle Walker-Peters was dropped to the bench for the Aston Villa game but the full-back will come back into the side in place of Perraud.

Adam Armstrong will be pushing for a start in midweek and since this game comes just a few days after the Villa game, the Southampton boss might look to rest either Che Adams or Broja.

Southampton predicted line up vs Newcastle United:

Predicted Starting Line up(4-4-2): Forster; Walker-Peters, Salisu, Bednarek, Livramento; Elyounoussi, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Armstrong. Broja, Che Adams/Adam Armstrong.
