Champions League Vertonghen Tottenham Spurs news

Spurs will take on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final this weekend at the Metropolitano.

And going into this match, everyone is putting their money on Liverpool and not Spurs to lift the trophy.

Liverpool obviously have much more experience at such a crucial stage of the Champions League and having played in the last year’s final will obviously give an upper hand to the Reds – as per the experts.

The other big reason why Spurs are not the favourites is due to the fact that they have a tendency to choke at crucial stages of tournaments.

Spurs have come close to winning the Premier League a couple of times during the recent past but every time they somehow manage to bottle it.

And there’s a buzz in the air that the Lilywhites will live up to their bottlers’ tag once again this weekend vs Liverpool.

But speaking before the game, Spurs player Christian Eriksen has made it clear that Spurs will not choke during such a crunch game.

“Spurs as a club, if you look from a historical point of view from Tottenham at how many trophies they’ve won before, where they’ve been before, it’s new,” Eriksen said.

“It’s something that will change the club, how people look at the club, how people think about us players at Spurs.

“We’re not going to be Spursy, or whatever they call it. As a player, you just go for the moment and hope it falls your way.”

Spurs will surely give it their all during the final but there’s a fear that the inexperience clubbed with the pressure could be hard to handle for Pochettino’s men.
