Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers FC earlier this summer and not only has he brought in close to a dozen new players into the club but he has also made sure that the existing ones also pull up their socks.

Gerrard has sent a number of players out on loan to various clubs which he has sold off the ones who will be of no use to him during the new season.

This means that players like Eduardo Herrara and Carlos Pena all moved out of Scotland leaving Steven Gerrard short of numbers in the striking department.

The Gers have brought in youngster Umar Sadiq from AS Roma on a season-long loan but Alfredo Morelos remains the club’s only recognisable forward and he has a ton of burden on his shoulders.

The 22-year-old joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 from Finnish side HJK on a three-year deal and last season he was one of the rare players who had a consistent season.

Morelos played 43 games in all competitions during the 2017-18 season and making to rake up a handsome tally of 18 goals – which has prompted the new boss to show his faith on the Colombian.

And now Steven Gerrard has gone on record to say that Alfredo Morelos is without a doubt one the most improved players in the squad – since the former English midfielder took charge of the club.

Talking to the club’s official website, Gerrard said:

“His attitude has been spot-on. His performances are getting better and better.

“He has worked very, very hard from day one and we can see a massive improvement in the player. He looks happy. He looks like he’s enjoying his football and we believe there’s lots more to come from the player.”

Morelos was shown a direct red for an off the ball altercation during Rangers’ season opener vs Aberdeen but that card has since been downgraded to a yellow meaning the 22-year-old will be available to face St Mirren on Sunday.
