Rangers FC play their first game of the new Scottish Premiership season on Sunday when they take on Aberdeen way from home.

Last season the Light Blues finished third on the league table – 3 points behind Aberdeen but the fans will be hoping that Gerrard can work his magic this time around and help the club defeat Celtic’s monopoly in winning the title.

The Gers played a Europa League game in midweek against NK Osijek which they drew 1-1 and reports claim that Steven Gerrard is expected to keep that same line up for Sunday’s fixture.

But before the match, the manager does have a headache as the Light Blues are expected to miss four key players during the Aberdeen vs Rangers game.

Left wing back Declan John is set to miss Sunday’s game as he recovers from a back injury while Lee Wallace is also an absentee with a groin injury.

The other two players who are set to miss the Light Blues’ season opener are Jordan Rossiter who is out with an ankle injury and Graham Dorrans as he is still suffering from a knee injury.

Thankfully though these four players will not be a huge miss for the Aberdeen game given the fact that Rangers have a number of players who can act as a back up to the like of Wallace and Declan John.

But the biggest concern for Steven Gerrard might be Umar Sadiq who is set to miss the game as he is yet to reach full fitness.

In such a scenario, the Light Blues will only have the services of Alfredo Morelos up front and the Colombian will have to make sure he gives his best on Sunday.
