Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rafa Benitez has parted ways with Newcastle United and now Steven Gerrard is being tipped as the man to replace him.

Initial reports had claimed that Mike Ashley is looking at Frank Lampard as the team’s next manager but now that the England midfielder has headed back to Chelsea, all the focus is back on Steven Gerrard.

Multiple reports claim the Magpies are determined to bring the current Gers onboard this summer despite Scottish reports claiming that Gerrard will not desert Rangers FC.

Most people have argued that a move to the Premier League will be too lucrative to resist and Steven Gerrard will follow in the footsteps of Brendan Rodgers.

But Gavin Berry recently in the Rangers podcast claiming that the Gers boss is yet to acquire the authority of managing in the Premier League.

Gavin Berry said on the Record Rangers podcast(as reported): “I’m not sure if Gerrard has earned the right to go straight to a Premier League club but you could say the same about Frank Lampard.

“With these two guys, your talking about their name and reputation and Gerrard had a good first season

“If he can win the league with Rangers, certainly in the next season or two, it will have been some job considering the gap between his side and Celtic when he took over.

“Then you can start talking about going to the English Premier League.”

Callum Louden though made a more rational argument claiming that Steven Gerrard will not want to take charge of the club until Mike Ashley is the owner there.

Louden claimed: “Gerrard doesn’t seem motivated by money. He wants to win silverware and I don’t seem him giving that up to go to a team with long-standing issues with their owner.”

Mike Ashley is not a fan favourite at St James’ Park and recent reports are ripe that he is trying to sell the club.

So naturally, Steven Gerrard would not want to leave a happy family at Rangers and take charge of a club which could change hands at any moment and in turn alter their whole vision.
