Steven Gerrard has been tipped to take charge of Newcastle United for some time now and the rumours have picked up ever since Rafa Benitez left the club.
Initial reports had claimed that Newcastle United have approached the Rangers boss to become their next boss but he had refused and now the Premier League club were looking to make a second contact.
But just a couple of days ago, the Times had put out an article in which they claimed that Newcastle United are yet to make contact with Steven Gerrard.
The Times had reported: “Steven Gerrard has not been approached by Newcastle United to replace Rafa Benítez as their new manager.
“Newcastle are understood to be considering the Glasgow Rangers boss to take charge at St James’ Park, but there has been no contact as yet to the former Liverpool captain.
“Gerrard, 39, is currently preparing for Rangers’ Europa League, first qualifying round tie with Gibraltar side St Joseph’s, having turned down offers from sides in the Championship earlier in the summer.”
This indicated that Mike Ashley was taking his time to approach Steven Gerrard hinting to a fact that Newcastle United were also weighing in other options.
And now, Steven Gerrard has come out to make a clear statement regarding the rumours of him heading to England during the summer.
“Fake news,” he said about him going to St James’ Park. “Not that I’m aware of.”
Steven Gerrard obviously is keeping his full focus on managing Rangers FC next season but he is yet to be approached by the Magpies.
And when that happens, many experts believe that it will be very hard for the Liverpool legend to resist a move to England since it is every manager’s dream to manage an EPL side.
