Gary Neville on Man City

Jurgen Klopp has done a fine job with Liverpool ever since he was appointed the manager of the club and according to Gary Neville, there are many similarities between his current side and that of Sir Alex Ferguson’s.

Yes, as weird as it may sound, the man who eight Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford has come out to claim that Klopp is laying the same foundations as Fergie did during his opening few years at the club.

Liverpool might have not won too many trophies under their current German boss but right now they are the team to beat in England and are also the reigning European champions.

Man United, on the other hand, have slumped to a new low ever since Sir Alex left the club and right now they are even struggling to get into the Champions League year in and year out.

And according to Neville, if Liverpool can manage to get their hands on the Premier League title this year then they might very well turn into a major European powerhouse.

“Manchester United fought for 20-odd years to get a title back and keep it away from Liverpool, the one club that can compete with United in terms of global fanbase, scale, tradition, history, success,” the Man United legend said.

“If they get a Premier League title under their belt, they become a real power.

“In football, when a group of fans love a manager, love a group of players and you see that triangle of the manager, players and fans coming together, it’s so powerful. It’s a spirit that’s difficult to break.

“It’s painful to watch because this Liverpool team have a lot of the qualities from the Manchester United teams I was part of; winning games late, that never-say-die attitude, looking desperate very single time to win the ball back, celebrating every goal like it’s the last goal they will ever score.

“As a Manchester United fan it’s awful to be at Anfield watching it, but you have to respect it.

“I watch football all the time and you see teams that are struggling to connect with their fans, or managers. We must recognise when a team is very good, and this Liverpool team is very good.”

Man United fans will be heartbroken if Liverpool pick up the Premier League title but this is the last thing that they can worry about since their own side are struggling to pick up wins at a regular basis and this season they have already lost four matches in the league.
