Thomas Partey to Arsenal

Arsenal have been chasing midfielder Thomas Partey for a really long time and recently, his Atletico Madrid teammate Kieran Trippier has predicted that the 27-year-old will be a success in the Premier League.

“I’d seen him play for Atletico but I didn’t realise how good he is,” the Atletico right-back said on The Beautiful Game podcast, as quoted by Goal.

“He’s unbelievable, his physicality, how he breaks up play. Technically he’s got everything.

“He ranks as one of the best midfielders I’ve played with, but Mousa [Dembele] is Mousa and he’s on a different planet that guy. Even in training, he was in cruise control. Thomas is still a very young player and everyone loves him out here.

“Going to the Premier League who knows? Obviously I want him to stay here because he’s a valuable member to our team. He speaks perfect English, very good English. I don’t think he’d have a problem with the Premier League.”

Will Arsenal miss out on Thomas Partey?

As per the latest reports, Arsenal have shown a keen interest in signing Thomas Partey but they are not ready to pay the release clause for the midfielder.

His current release clause is £45 million which is a really great transaction price for someone of his calibre. But this inability to pay the required sum clearly goes on to show just how poor Arsenal’s finances are right now.

The manager needs to bring in reinforcements for a number of positions in the starting line-up and with Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka faltering, signing someone like Thomas Partey is a big requirement for the club.

But if Arsenal are not willing to spend even £45 million for a defensive midfielder then surely they will have to make do without a player who clearly has Europa League standards.
