Liverpool are currently the favourites to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and the Premier League outfit might just have moved one step closer.
The German international is expected to move out of the Bundesliga at the end of the 2019-20 season and England seems to be his next destination.
Now according to German football journalist Raphael Honigstein, Jurgen Klopp has held a meeting with the forward and it’s only a matter of time before all the concerned parties agree to a transfer.
The journalist told BT Sport, as reported: “So far Liverpool have been linked closely and there has been a meeting between him and Jurgen Klopp, at least a virtual one over the last few weeks.
“I think they’re a bit hesitant to pull the trigger because they haven’t quite figured out how much of a financial problem the coronavirus will present itself to football, coming over the next month in the Premier League.
“I think he’s waiting for things to fall into shape and it could be that the transfer window is much later than usual.
“This kind of deal would have been announced in April/May, this time it could be August or September, but I still think there’s a very strong chance he’ll end up at Liverpool.”
Liverpool and Leipzig are obviously waiting for the 2019-20 season to officially end which is why some people think, the other interested clubs like Chelsea for instance, still have a chance to land the 24-year-old.
But honestly speaking Timo Werner is not too keen to join any other club apart from Liverpool due to his aspirations to work with Jurgen Klopp. So unless the Premier League leaders pull out of this transfer race themselves, there’s no way any other club will be able to sway his mind.
While the Liverpool fans will be more than happy to see Werner arrive at the club in the summer but the same cannot be said about Roberto Firmino who will either have to prove his worth to Jurgen Klopp or find a new club next season.
