SPFL have already passed a resolution to end the 2019-20 season in all the four divisions in Scotland but to do this for the Premiership, UEFA needs to grant permission first.

And according to some people, this is the hardest step amongst all since UEFA is not a big fan of this decision and they had even gone on to threaten leagues about their non-participation in Europe if they choose to end their domestic leagues abruptly.

UEFA had released a statement which read: “It is of paramount importance that even a disruptive event like this epidemic does not prevent our competitions from being decided on the field, in accordance with their rules and that all sporting titles are awarded on the basis of results.

“We are confident that football can restart in the months to come – with conditions that will be dictated by public authorities – and believe that any decision of abandoning domestic competitions is, at this stage, premature and not justified.

“UEFA reserves the right to assess the entitlement of clubs to be admitted to the 2020/21 UEFA club competitions.”

But despite these strong words, the Belgian Pro League have already declared their season finished thereby naming Club Brugge as the 2019-20 champions and now the Serbian Super Liga has also followed on their footsteps.

Right now Red Star Belgrade are currently at the top of the Super Liga and according to their CEO, Zvezdan Terzic, UEFA will agree to this decision since the smaller leagues have very different problems as compared to the top-five leagues.

Terzic said, as reported by the Scottish Sun: “There are three scenarios available to leagues like ours. The first is to hope we can eventually continue the season, the second is to declare it null and void and the third is to do what Scotland and Belgium have done and end the season now.

“We have been in constant contact with UEFA. Scotland and Belgium have argued their case with sound reason and I know UEFA will now accept it.

“Bigger leagues will insist on finishing their championships, but that is because their income is hugely reliant on TV money.

“Here, we need to align with the measures taken by Serbian FA and Serbian Government. The lack of available dates is not our fault.

“I wish we could be called the champions in the normal way, but it is not up to us.”
