Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League while Chelsea beat Arsenal to win the Europa League which means both these champions will now play in the UEFA Super Cup.

But it looks like the UEFA Super Cup has already been engulfed in controversy.

This week, UEFA announced the allocation of tickets for the match and to everyone’s surprise, both Liverpool and Chelsea were given only a little more than 5,000 tickets – for a stadium which holds around 38,000 spectators.

Such a meagre ticket allocation has obviously infuriated both sets of fans as the governing body of football claim that the rest of tickets have been held for neutral fans.

And this is very much a repeat of the Europa League final where Chelsea and Arsenal were only handed around 6,000 tickets inside a stadium whose capacity was 68,000.

As per Standard, “Liverpool and Chelsea have been handed an allocation of just 5,257 tickets each for their upcoming UEFA Super Cup clash in Istanbul.

But, while the stadium will boast a capacity just shy of 38,000, both teams’ combined ticket allocation makes up a fraction over a quarter of that figure.

Uefa yesterday declared that 78 per cent of tickets for the game would be made available to “supporters of the two teams and the general public”.”

Venue for the UEFA Super Cup:

The Super Cup will be played at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul which happens to be the home ground for Besiktas.

As per Sky Sports, “Istanbul beat Tirana (Albania), Toulouse (France), Haifa (Israel), Astana (Kazakhstan), Belfast (Northern Ireland) and Gdansk (Poland) to hosting the final.”

When is the UEFA Super Cup?

The Super Cup will be played on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, three days after the new Premier League season gets underway.

Other details:

The UEFA Super Cup much like the Champions League and the Europa League final will have the luxury of the Video Assistant Referee.

The Vodafone Park in Istanbul is a relatively small stadium with a seating capacity of around 41,000.
