Liverpool brought in Virgil Van Dijk in January of 2018 for a transfer fee of £75 million and the centre-back has now turned himself into the best player in his position during the current season.

Van Dijk played in every Premier League game for the Reds during the 2018-19 season and also played in 12 games in the Champions League and not one single player was able to https://wordpress-177711-521788.cloudwaysapps.com/category/england/premier-league-news/dribble past him.

The Dutch international has truly revolutionalised the Liverpool backline and with him manning the defensive line, the Anfield outfit look virtually unpenetrable.

Van Dijk had signed a five-year contract back in January of last year but now reports are claiming that the defender is already willing to commit his long-term future to the club.

As per ESPN, the 27-year-old is eager to sign a new deal at Liverpool and he has already informed the management about his wish.

ESPN reported: “Virgil van Dijk has told Liverpool he wants to sign a new contract with the club, sources have told ESPN FC.

“The world’s most expensive defender signed a five-and-a-half-year deal upon his £75 million switch from Southampton in January 2018 but is already enthusiastic about further solidifying his commitment to the Champions League winners.

“The 27-year-old made the declaration to the club well in advance of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid, which saw them add a sixth European Cup — the first trophy of the Jurgen Klopp era.”

His current deal expires in 2023 and the fact that he is already looking for a new deal will surely be good news for the Liverpool fans.

But some experts believe that Van Dijk wants a new deal because he is eager to get a pay rise at the club after his fine performance during the 2018-19 season.

While Liverpool will surely be ready to offer Van Dijk a new deal but their current priority will be to keep Jurgen Klopp at the club.

Klopp is under contract at Anfield until 2022 but the manager has recently claimed that he wishes to take a break from management once his contract with Liverpool expires.
