Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk clashed with Moussa Sissoko during the Red’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

And right now the Reds are sweating over the injury of the Dutchman.

Virgil Van Dijk successfully defended a counterattack during the final few minutes of the game and in doing so, the defender collided with Sissoko and he was naturally in a fair bit of discomfort.

After the match, the Liverpool manager did provide an update on the injury but it was pretty clear that the extent of the injury would only be known after a meticulous examination.

Klopp said during the post-match press conference(as reported): “We have to see. I asked him and I think it was in the counter-attack situation when Sissoko hit him… I don’t know if he twisted it or it is a knock.

“He was walking to the interviews with a big ice pack. I hope it’s nothing serious but I don’t know yet.”

This season, Virgil Van Dijk has been rock solid in defence for the Anfield outfit and without a shadow of a doubt, the Dutchman is currently the best centre-back in world football.

But now reports are claiming that Virgil Van Dijk might be sidelined for a couple of days.

Even though these are just initial reports, but if they somehow hold true then the Reds could be in for a really tough couple of days.

On Friday, Liverpool take on Southampton in the Premier League following which they welcome Porto in the Champions League.

So, if Virgil Van Dijk does have a serious injury then surely Jurgen Klopp will avoid playing him at the St Mary’s on Friday in order to preserve him for the UCL quarter-finals.
