Arsenal brought in Nicolas Pepe for £75 million during the summer transfer window but despite a brilliant record last season in France, the winger has failed to settle into the Premier League.

So far Pepe has come up with a mixed bag of performances and fans are still not sure whether he will be any good during the remainder of the campaign.

While some pundits have claimed that the player just like everyone else needs time to settle down in England but according to Charlton boss Lee Bowyer, Emery has made a completely wrong decision by signing Nicolas Pepe.

As per Bowyer, the Spaniard should have spent the money in order to strengthen some other department of his squad instead of roping in the winger during the summer.

“Defensively they are frail, they concede too many goals. Their centre-halves have been a problem for years,” said Bowyer on Sky Sports’ The Debate[as reported by the Mirror].

“It’s not just been this season, it’s been for a while now, but they would rather spend £75million on a winger than a centre-back.

“Maguire would have been perfect for them, why didn’t they get him?”

This season the Gunners have so far conceded 15 goals in the Premier League which is the second most amongst the top 10 clubs in the table up until Gameweek 11.

Last season too they conceded 51 goals which was far more than any of the top-four sides and this was one of the primary reasons why Arsenal failed to secure a Champions League spot.

While Nicolas Pepe has provided a new dimension in attack this season but spending so much money on an attacking player was completely unnecessary especially when someone like Harry Maguire was available in the market.
