West Ham news Pedro Obiang

West Ham United have signed a host of midfielders during the summer transfer window and with that, the club are expected to offload some deadwood before the new season kicks off.

And one player that was scheduled to move out of the London Stadium was midfielder Pedro Obiang.

Obiang joined the Hammers in 2015 from Italian side Sampdoria but his stay in the Premier League has been highly unsuccessful.

Obiang managed to play just 87 games in all competitions during the three seasons that he was at the club – scoring three goals.

During the 2017-18 season, Pedro Obiang made 21 appearances in the Premier League and failed to provide a single assist despite playing most of the games in and around the central midfield area.

While the 26-year-old is known for his defensive contribution he lacks creativity going forward and Manuel Pellegrini has come to the conclusion that the player is surplus to his requirement for the new campaign.

Pedro Obiang himself had told Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan about his desire to return to Sampdoria and up until last week, it was pretty sure that the midfielder was on his way back to Italy.

But recent reports are suggesting that West Ham and Sampdoria have had a conflict of interest and Pedro Obiang might stay back in London for the next season.

According to reports coming from Italy, West Ham United are sticking to their price tag of €12 million while the Italian side are not ready to pay anything more than €10 million.

This stubbornness from the Hammers had reportedly infuriated Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero who is now threatening to back out from the transfer.

Apart from Sampdoria, Pedro Obiang does not seem to have any more takers so if the Italians pull the plug then the midfielder might not have any other option but to stay back at the London Stadium for one more year.
