Chelsea have signed Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.
And with that, the Blues have sent Alvaro Morata to Athletico Madrid.
Higuain’s move to Chelsea was on the wings for a long time and up until the transfer was secured, the London outfit did not want to let Morata move out.
But now reports are suggesting that Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Chelsea might have almost collapsed – thanks to West Ham United.
Yes, the Hammers could have frozen Gonzalo Higuain’s move out of AC Milan had they managed to sign Krzysztof Piatek.
Piatek joined AC Milan from Genoa this month but it was West Ham United who had initially shown interest in the Polish international.
“Yes, there was a big offer, but Genoa rejected it. They wanted to get along with Milan, with whom they have a very good relationship,” Piatek told Przegląd Sportowy.
“And I didn’t leave much doubt.
“I was determined about Milan. With all due respect to West Ham, but I came to a much bigger club. Money can be at a similar level, but at this stage of my career, it’s not the most important for me. Here I have the chance to play in the Champions League.”
Krzysztof Piatek has been signed by AC Milan as a replacement to Gonzalo Higuain but if the former Genoa man would have chosen West Ham United over the Serie A side then there is no way that Milan would have let Higuain join Chelsea.
But with the transfer of Piatek, Milan have surely gotten an upgrade to Gonzalo Higuain since the former has scored 19 goals in just 22 games this season for Genoa.
But clearly, Maurizio Sarri thinks, Gonzalo Higuain is the perfect man to lead the line for his Chelsea team having managed the player earlier during their Napoli days.
