Chelsea have done really well this season, despite not being able to sign even a single player in the past two transfer windows. And now all of a sudden, the Blues have managed to get their hands on not only Hakim Ziyech but also Timo Werner.

These two acquisitions from Chelsea have caught the attention of the footballing world and many people think the London side might just be able to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title next season itself.

According to pundit Paul Merson, Chelsea have done a more than decent job over the past year but it will take a little bit more time before they can go toe to toe vs Liverpool.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Chelsea have got nice fixtures between now and the end of the season, so I don’t think there’s any way they’re not finishing in the top four.”

“I think Chelsea need a left-back, and they might need another centre-half, and then they’ll be a major force next season. I don’t think they’ll win the Premier League next season, but the gap won’t be as big.

“They mean business. The owner has been brilliant; he’s weighed it up and gone – bang! Here’s your money.

“He’s looked at the situation and thought, ‘Tottenham are struggling, Pep Guardiola won’t be at City forever,’ and he’s trying to get into the top four, close the gap and challenge when they have their chance.

“With Liverpool putting up records like they have with their players being as good as they are, it’s only a matter of time before the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling.

“In three or four years, I’d be quite shocked if Chelsea don’t win the Premier League.”

Liverpool are a well-oiled machine and it will be another big challenge for Frank Lampard to make all his world-class players play as one cohesive unit.

As far as we are concerned, it will take the Chelsea manager the whole of the 2020-21 season to figure out what his best starting XI will be and by that time Liverpool might just be able to pick up one more Premier League title.
