Liverpool spent a fair amount of money in the transfer window last year and despite initial protests, each one of their signings has come good.
And one of the players is goalkeeper Alisson Becker who joined the Reds from AS Roma last summer for a fee of €62.5 million.
When the transfer was confirmed a lot of eyebrows were raised with the fact that Liverpool have chosen to spend so much on a keeper but Alisson along with Virgil Van Dijk has totally changed Liverpool’s defensive line.
The Reds though weren’t the only club who were interested in signing Alisson as Chelsea too were in the hunt for the Brazilian.
And Alisson Becker has now revealed why he snubbed the Blues.
Speaking to FourFourTwo(as reported by talkSPORT), Alisson said: “I chose Liverpool for the same reasons I went to Roma when I first left Brazil – I thought this would be the best move for my career.
“Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League. I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history.
“This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet. I really wanted to be part of that history.
“I came very close to winning the competition with Roma and I’m working hard to make it happen now with Liverpool.
“What’s life if not fighting for your dreams? I dream of winning the Champions League.”
The Blues eventually went on to sign Kepa Arrizzabalaga from Atletic Bilbo for €80 million but Liverpool have surely gotten the better deal.
Alisson so far has featured in 27 games for Liverpool conceding just 17 goals.
