Rangers FC have signed Jermain Defoe on an 18-month loan deal from AFC Bournemouth.

As per the reports, the loan contract will have two call back clauses, one during the summer and one in January of next year.

The Teddy Bears released a statement on Sunday in which they announced the signing of Jermain Defoe.

“RANGERS are today delighted to confirm that Jermain Defoe has joined the Club on an 18-month loan subject to international clearance,” the statement read.

“The English striker, who has 20 goals from 57 international caps, joins from English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

“Defoe has scored 162 Premier League goals throughout his twenty-year professional career, making 496 appearances.

“He began his career at Charlton Athletic, before having goalscoring success for West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, Toronto FC, Sunderland and Bournemouth.”

And now after the signing was confirmed, Gers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed why he chose to sign his former England teammate.

“I’m delighted to be able to welcome Jermain to Rangers,” Gerrard said.

“He is an exceptionally talented striker and vastly experienced footballer who has scored goals at every club he has played for.

“He will be a great addition to our dressing room and we look forward to integrating him into the squad whilst we work in Tenerife over the next week.”

Jermain Defoe will go a long way in helping ease the goalscoring burden off of Alfred Morelos but now with the former Spurs player on board, there is a huge possibility that Alfredo Morelos could head out of Ibrox during the summer transfer window.
