Serge Gnabry came to London once again and this time he helped Bayern Munich tear apart Chelsea in the Champions League, with the Germans winning the match 3-0.
Serge Gnabry scored a brace on the night but could have easily gotten a hattrick and once again there were questions and debates as to why Arsenal had let such an influential player leave back in 2016.
The winger had joined the Gunners’ U18 squad back in 2013 and was expected to be a big star at the club. So naturally now when the German has been playing so well for Bayern Munich, there have been question marks over Arsenal’s previous management and their choice to let Serge Gnabry leave.
And now in order to defend himself and his staff’s decision, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has now come out to explain why he Gnarby moved out of the Emirates despite the Gunners planning to give him a new deal.
“He has no real limitations it’s more how much does he want to suffer,” said Wenger after Bayern beat Chelsea. “Because he has pace, power, technical ability, he’s very intelligent, sometimes he looks for the easy way in football. That’s what was his problem. He lacked a bit.
“I gave him to West Brom, it didn’t work out at all. In fairness, I think we had an agreement with him but Bayern stole him away from Werder Bremen.

“He’s a good player. He has individual ability and collective ability. We had an agreement with him but because he didn’t play at West Brom I let him go with the U21s in the summer with the German national team and he did very well of course.
“We had prepared him for us to sign his new contract but then suddenly he wanted to go to Werder Bremen.
“But it was not Werder Bremen that bought him it was Munich that bought him. Because six months or less than one year later he moved from Bremen to Bayern but it was a done deal before.
“He was at the end of his contract and we thought that he would stay because he told he would stay.”
Serge Gnabry has now netted six goals in the Champions League this season and all of them have come in London vs London teams. The first four came against Spurs while the remaining two came against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
