The coronavirus outbreak has turned out to be a massive medical crisis with China so far reporting 77,658 cases and 2,663 deaths and there have been rumours that Manchester United could be affected by this.
Manchester United are one of the biggest football clubs in the world and they have a huge fan base in China and obviously a large number of Chinese and South Asian fans come to see Old Trafford regularly.
And this is why there have been reports that the club might choose to postpone some of their matches in order to protect the players, their staff and also the people who visit the stadium.
The Serie A has already moved in this direction having postponed four games while Inter Milan are playing against Ludogorets in the Europa League behind closed doors.
But as of now, the coronavirus outbreak has not caused any scheduling changes to the Manchester United matches according to Ed Woodward.
”Our thoughts go out to everyone in China and other countries affected by it,” United’s executive vice-chairman said.
“We’ve got many supporters obviously in China and the rest of Asia, and staff in Hong Kong so our first concern is for people’s welfare.
“It’s a very fluid situation and we’re monitoring closely. We’re aware of the impact to sporting events in Asia and what’s obviously been happening in Italy in the last two days.
“But, to date, we haven’t seen any disruption to sporting events in the UK and we are continuing to monitor the situation and will follow any and all guidance from the relevant authorities, including the Premier League and UEFA.”
There had also been hints that Manchester United could once again head back to China for their pre-season tour this summer but as of now, this seems highly unlikely.
