Chelsea have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner who also happens to be a transfer target for Liverpool this summer.
The player is currently one of the best centre-forwards in world football having scored 21 goals and made 7 assists in 25 Bundesliga matches this ongoing season. But the player is expected to move out of Germany in the summer and possibly join a Premier League club.
Liverpool have long been associated with the 24-year-old with the player himself claiming claimed that he wishes to play for Jurgen Klopp someday. And finally, the Reds were expected to sign him up at the end of this season.
But over the past couple of weeks, there had been whispers of Chelsea wanting to make a move for him and in the last few days, these rumours have really picked up wind.
Frank Lampard is set to lose both Giroud and Batshuayi in the summer and is said to be looking at Timo Werner as the striker partner to Tammy Abraham for the 2020/21 season.
But now it seems like the Chelsea boss will have to watch him join Liverpool during the upcoming transfer window thanks to one man.
Why Timo Werner wants Liverpool move?
As it stands, Liverpool are still the favourites to sign the 24-year-old and all it needs is the green light from their manager Jurgen Klopp.
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “Werner will become a Liverpool player this summer if Klopp decides to activate his £52m release clause and if he can convince Werner he will play regularly next season.
“He is almost certain to leave RB Leipzig in the summer because of his release clause and he favours a move to Liverpool as long as he gets to play.
“If Liverpool can give his representatives the assurances they need, then Werner playing for Liverpool next season becomes a real possibility.”
