Willian Chelsea
Willian playing for Chelsea

Chelsea winger Willian is set to be a free agent in the summer and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign him in for the upcoming season – as per reports.

The pair has previously worked at Chelsea and despite his age, Willian can be a fine asset to Spurs given that he will be available for free at the end of the season more so since Mourinho could lose a few of his key players.

But according to Danny Mills, the Lilywhites are not likely to make a move for the Brazilian international due to their chairman Daniel Levy.

“He would be a great addition but I think it is very unlikely,” Mills told Football Insider.

“Of course, he has turned them down before. I am not sure Daniel Levy will have that in any way shape or form.

“Willian is a brilliant player. He is not injured often and has a huge amount of quality. I think he would be a great addition, even as a squad player. At some point in your career, you have to accept you will not play every week.

“There will be plenty of teams in the Premier League and around Europe that would definitely take him.”

Where will Willian end up next season?

Spurs aren’t the only club interested in signing the winger with big names like Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus all keeping tabs on the situation.

The player has made it clear that despite him being a free agent after the 30th of June, he will play for Chelsea if the current season rolls beyond that.

But surely he’s not gonna get a new deal at the club especially now that Ligue 1 giants PSG have also joined the race to sign him.

Willian has been calling London home for a really long time and reports have suggested the player is keen on staying in the city even after leaving Chelsea – hence the option of joining Spurs.

But if Mills is right and Levy does ditch a move for the player in the summer then Willian will have no other option but to move out of England.

Yes, it will be a bit of an adjustment but unlike other free agents, the 31-year-old has no shortage of takers in the transfer market.
