Manchester United had tried to sign Real Sociedad centre-forward Willian Jose during the January transfer window as revealed by his agent.

Jose has been with Sociedad since 2016 and during the ongoing 2019-20 season, the 28-year-old has netted nine goals in 26 La Liga matches for the club.

And according to Arcuri, Jose’s agent, a number of clubs, including Manchester United wanted to sign him at the start of the new year.

He said, via MEN: “So I tell everyone, just in this January market, he had, that’s official, alright Jorge? He had Barcelona, he had Tottenham, he had Manchester United, he had Newcastle.

“Then, just there, again, he speaks for himself.

“Tottenham. They got to offer between… they wanted to offer a player and an amount, so it was about €30m [£26m].”

Should Manchester United go back for Jose?

Manchester United are looking to bring in a new centre-forward during the summer transfer window and some experts have claimed the club could reignite their interest in Willian Jose.

Apart from nine goals this season, last campaign the 28-year-old scored 11 and assisted five goals in the La Liga which is more than impressive stats for someone who was being scouted as a backup to Anthony Martial.

But after the club failed to sign him, they eventually went on to bring Odion Ighalo on board and so far the Nigerian has done more than a decent job.

And while Ole is looking for someone like Harry Kane to lead the line next season, we feel instead of trying to bring in a new back-up centre-forward, Manchester United will just offer Ighalo a permanent deal at the club.

The Nigerian’s loan spell is up in the summer but as per reports, Solskjaer wants to keep him permanently despite Shanghai Shenhua.

So with Odion Ighalo already to commit his long-term future to Manchester United, we do not think the club will try and make a move for Willian Jose especially since he still has three years left on his current deal at Real Sociedad.
