Ben Chilwell has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time now but it looks like Lampard has earmarked Marc Cucurella as a cheaper alternative to the Leicester man.
Despite failing to secure a Champions League spot for the next season, Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Ben Chilwell remains an important part of the squad and he’s not up for sale.
He said, via The Sun: “He’s not a player we want to lose. I’m quite relaxed on it. I’m not worried at all.
“We’ve got a fantastic squad that we want to keep together so I don’t worry.
“You can spin it whichever way you want. There is no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there is absolutely no need for us to sell Ben Chilwell. If you want a message, the message is he’s not for sale.”
Apart from this, news of Manchester United wanting to sign Chiwell has also been doing the rounds which is probably another reason why Lampard is keeping tabs on Getafe’s Marc Cucurella.
A report in The Sun claims: “MARC CUCURELLA is rumoured to be on Chelsea’s transfer target list following their qualification for a coveted Champion’s League spot.
“The Blues are believed to be willing to stump up around £27million for the La Liga star, according to Spanish outlet AS.”
Marc Cucurella started his career as a left-back but right now he is as a left-sided midfielder having played 39 games in that position for Getafe this season.
But despite him not being an out-and-out left-back Lampard believes he can be used in that position, in case his side fail to bring Ben Chilwell on board.
Leicester City are certainly standing firm in their decision but it will be interesting to see what happens when the England international himself wants to move out in the summer.
