Chelsea forward Pedro has seen very little game time this season under Frank Lampard and he has admitted that he will be on his way out in the summer.
The Spaniard joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2015 and since then he has been a pivotal figure for the Blues. But during the 2019-20 season, the 32-year-old has played in only nine Premier League games scoring one and assisting one goal.
And now the player has admitted that he will leave the club in the summer once his contract expires at the end of June.
“I’m terminating my contract, but right now it’s not the most important thing, nor have I stopped to think about it,” Pedro said, via Football London.
“From there on what has to do with my future will come, but right now it’s not the most important thing when you don’t even know when you’re going to train again.”
So it’s pretty clear that Chelsea have held onto their tradition of not offering long-term contracts to players over 30 which is perhaps one of the main reasons why Pedro has decided to find a new club for the upcoming season.
Under normal circumstances, this might not have been a problem but this season it could be a big issue for Chelsea since there’s every chance that the current season could go well beyond the 2019-20 season.
And so if the season was to go beyond the month of June, Pedro will technically not available to the London club.
Another player who has a similar problem is Willian who is set to be a free agent in the summer but the Brazilian has made it clear that he is ready to play for the club beyond his contract due to his loyalty to the club.
While Pedro is yet to give a similar statement but surely he will consider doing the same having played for the Blues for half a decade.
