West Ham United head to Anfield this weekend to face Liverpool and the Hammers might be without Tomas Soucek for this key encounter.

Soucek suffered a facial injury during West Ham’s FA Cup exit in midweek and while players like Ryan Fredericks and Masuaku could return to the matchday squad, Tomas Soucek remains a major doubt.

Moyes confirmed, in his press conference: “Like everybody, we’ve got a few injuries and a few players out, but we’ve also got some coming back as well hopefully.

“Ryan Fredericks is doing a bit better and so is Arthur [Masuaku]. We’ve got some good news on that side.

“We’ve got a concern about [Tomas] Soucek because of his stitches in his head, so that’s something we’re concerned about, but we’re probably no different from any other Club in the Premier League – we’ve got some injuries.”

Will Tomas Soucek be a big miss against Liverpool?

Declan Rice is one of the major players for West Ham but Tomas Soucek has been equally important for whatever they have achieved this season.

The 27-year-old has been a wonderful signing for the Hammers and he has a 7.16 rating out of 10 in the 25 Premier League games he’s played this season.

Rice and Soucek basically hunt in pairs and if the latter is missing then all the pressure will be on Declan Rice’s shoulders. Yes, Rice is a world-class player but it will be really hard for him to stop players like Salah, Mane and Jota all by himself.

David Moyes will be hoping that Tomas Soucek is fully fit to start but if the midfielder is not available then there’s every chance that the West Ham manager might look to change his formation.

Usually, the Hammers play in a 4-2-3-1 formation but if Soucek is missing then Moyes could shift to a three-man central defence along with two proper wing-backs.

Tomas Soucek did take part in training with a headgear so there’s a fair chance that the doctors will find a proper protector for those stitches and get him ready for the Liverpool game.
