Rangers FC suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Livingston in the Premiership this weekend meaning the Light Blues are yet to pick up a win on the road.
It was an overall poor show from Steven Gerrard’s men as most of them looked out of sorts during the 90 minutes.
Both Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos failed to create any sort of real magic while both of them were together on the pitch.
Despite the strikers misfiring, Umar Sadiq was nowhere to be seen, in fact, the loanee from AS Roma did not even make it to the matchday squad on Sunday.
And as the young striker spends more time on the sidelines, rumours are growing that the Light Blues are planning to send Umar Sadiq back to AS Roma.
Rangers brought in Umar Sadiq during the summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal and he was supposed to be the backup striker to Alfredo Morelos. But since then, the Light Blues have signed Kyle Lafferty pushing Saddiq down the pecking order.
Now some reports have claimed that instead of inflating their wage bill, Rangers want to send Umar Sadiq back to Italy.
Steven Gerrard was asked this exact same question to which the Rangers boss replied:
“It’s not something that we’ve thought about, and it’s not something we’d try and do.
“What we want is the real, aggressive Sadiq. That’s we’ve paid for, that’s what we’ve asked for, that’s what we’ve got in. This is me trying a different way to get it out of him because I’ve tried other ways.”
Umar Sadiq has been with AS Roma since 2016 but the striker is yet to break into their first team and has moved around Europe on various loan spells.
The move to Rangers came with a guaranteed playing time but that too has been squandered ever since Kyle Lafferty moved into Ibrox.
Now the only thing left for Umar Sadiq to do is to train hard and hope Steven Gerrard gives him regular playing time.
