Arsenal fought off a lot of clubs to sign defender William Saliba from St Etienne but the Gunners had to send him back to the French club.
The arrangement was such that William Saliba had to be loaned back immediately to his former club for the entirety of the 2019-20 season and this led many people to believe that the Gunners had wasted unnecessary money on signing the youngster.
But experts believe that the Frenchman could be the next big thing in European football 0 if handled correctly which is why they are touting it as a clever spending from Unai Emery.
Right now though, the £27-million-man is ruled out of action for atleast the next 6 weeks according to reports in France.
The St Etienne coach Ghislain Printant has confirmed that William Saliba has undergone a surgery saying:
“Saliba had an operation earlier this week. We will take our time with his return.”
And as per reports, the operation was regarding an abductor muscle injury and he is likely to be out for six weeks.
The report states: “William Saliba has undergone an operation following an adductor muscle injury, in agreement with parent club Arsenal.
“He will be out of action for at least 6 weeks for St Étienne.”
The reports also suggest that the youngster was being troubled with injuries since last season but only decided to get operated this year after consulting with the Arsenal medical staff.
In theory, the player should recover fully within 6 weeks but some reports claim that an abductor surgery could take as much as 12 weeks to heal.
And if the latter is the outcome of the surgery then William Saliba could miss a large chunk of the current season which will not go down too well with Unai Emery.
The Gunners manager had agreed to send the defender back to his former club since he wanted his to get regular game time but it looks like that is not how things might pan out eventually.
