Chelsea news Willian
Willian playing for Chelsea

Willian has been a key player for Chelsea during the past couple of years but it looks like Spurs are planning to make a move for him –  as per reports.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea in 2013 from Anzhi and this season, the 31-year-old has already made 27 appearances for the Blues – scoring four goals in the process.

And as we all know, Chelsea rarely give long-term deals to players who are over 30 years old but it seems like they are willing to bypass this rule as reports claim Willian has been offered a two-year contract at the club.

Willian is out of contract at the end of the season and a two-year deal would be a huge boost for the player’s confidence right now. But it looks like the player wants more than that.

As per the report, Willian is demanding a three-year deal and to make matters worse he has no plans to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer transfer window.

And this is where Spurs are looking to jump in as they are willing to offer the winger a three-year contract at the club.

Spurs are badly in need of reinforcements during for the upcoming season and it seems like Jose Mourinho wants to bring in players who he has observed from close quarters.

It’s still unclear whether Willian would want to make the switch across London and join one of the Chelsea’s biggest rivals but as things stand the player seems to be looking to find a way out of the Bridge at the end of the season.

UPDATE(10th March 2020):

As per a latest report in the Telegraph, it looks like Arsenal too have joined the race to sign Willian during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are looking for an overhaul during the summer and it seems like Mikel Arteta seems to have lost faith in Nicolas Pepe.

Pepe was the marquee signing for Arsenal before the start of the season but the Ivorian international seems to have fallen flat on his face.

As of now, the winger is even failing to keep his place in the starting XI and it looks like Arteta wants to add some experience to his forward line.

It’s still unclear as to whether Willian would want to leave Chelsea for a direct rival more so since Bayern Munich are also reportedly keeping tabs on the player.

While moving Bayern will most certainly be a step up for the Brazilian but there’s a big chance that the German giants will not be willing to meet his demands of a three-year deal in which case the winger might have to try his luck at either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.
