Xherdan Shaqiri Liverpool

Liverpool will take on Wolves in the Premier League this week and Xherdan Shaqiri has been ruled out of this clash.

The Swiss international was absent for the 2-0 win over Manchester United due to a minor calf problem and the player has now revealed that he is expected to miss the trip to Molineux as well even though the injury is not too serious.

“It is just slight, I had a little problem in training,” Xherdan Shaqiri told Liverpoolfc.com on Monday.

“So I hope I might be back later this week. Let’s see, I cannot say now but it will be good if so. I didn’t have a lot of playing rhythm. I missed pre-season also and there were different reasons why I got some knocks maybe.

“I’m staying positive and I still try to have the opportunity to give my best and to help the team.”

VERDICT ON XHERDAN SHAQIRI INJURY:

The injury will surely not bother the player too much as he is expected to be fit for by the end of the weekend.

But having said that Jurgen Klopp will not be too happy with this since he really wanted to rotate his squad for the Wolves game.

After the hard-fought win over Manchester United, we were sure the Liverpool manager would have wanted to rest the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

But now that Xherdan Shaqiri is ruled out of the Wolves clash, Mo Salah will have no other option but to play another 90 minutes this time away from home.

The 28-year-old has seen very little game time this season for Liverpool having played for 174 minutes across six matches in the Premier League and if the injury had not been an obstacle then surely Shaqiri would have had a start vs Wolves in midweek.
