Manchester United No 1 David de Gea is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in Europe right now and the Spaniard is without a doubt the crown jewel at Old Trafford. But will United be able to hold onto him during the summer transfer window is a hugely debatable topic.

Multiple reports have claimed that Real Madrid are planning to make a move for David de Gea at the end of the season – just like they did a couple of seasons back and this time around the Los Blancos have already fixed any faulty fax machines.

Jose Mourinho has time and again claimed that he wants the Spanish No 1 to stay at Manchester United and the manager is optimistic that De Gea will commit his long-term future to the club.

But now the shot-stopper has revealed what United must do in order to keep him at Old Trafford.

In an interview, David De Gea talked about the odd situation when he almost joined Real Madrid during the Van Gaal era and how United must reinstate their hunger to win titles.

He said: “It was odd (under Van Gaal). Finishing fourth is not good enough. I want to win. If you are at United, you need a manager with a winning mentality. We had that with Ferguson. Mourinho has it. He wants to win every game.

“We spoke in the Euros and he told me he wanted me with him and wanted trophies. We’ve had a tough time since Ferguson retired. It’s hard to diagnose. It has to be more.

“Titles are what I crave. We have to get United back to their best, back in the Champions League, back as the champions of England, back to the top.”

Real Madrid have had a dismal campaign in the La Liga this season and Florentino Perez has already ordered a major overhaul at the club during the summer.

A series of first team players are expected to move out of the club while a number of new faces will wear the white of Real Madrid.
