Billy Gilmour once again dazzled on the big stage this time by being the standout performer for Chelsea in their 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

After his fine display against Liverpool in midweek, Billy Gilmour was compensated with a start in midfield vs the Toffees and the youngster proved to everyone that the Blues’ young talent pool is one of the best in England right now.

But even after two standout performances, the manager has preferred not to make any swift judgements despite showering heavy praise on the 18-year-old.

The Blues boss said via TEAMtalk: “It’s pleasing, It’s something the academy has deserved because they’ve done so much hard work for years and now the players are getting in the team.

“With Billy, I always felt that the more he trained with us the better he got, you could see that. So for me, when he played I think he’s just going to get better.

“I’m not jumping the gun because it’s two outstanding performances but when you watch his intelligence and receiving of the ball, he’s always checking his shoulder.

“He plays the simple pass but it’s always right and the perfect weight and he puts his foot in.”

Can Billy Gilmour shine for Chelsea?

Now that Billy Gilmour has earned approval from none other than Roy Keane there’s no way that one can shun away the youngster as a fluke.

But Chelsea have a really bad history of dealing with their youngsters. There have been numerous players who have been allowed to leave the club and then they have gone on to become world-class players.

So now it’s up to Frank Lampard to make sure that Billy Gilmour has his head in the right place and also to convince him that he does have a long-term future at the club. After such an impact, surely a number of clubs will try and sign him during the summer transfer window but it’s really essential for his boss as well as the club to properly shield him.
