Rangers FC boss Steven Gerrard left out Alfredo Morelos from their game against Kilmarnock this past weekend and it looks like his exit from the club is only a matter of time.
Gerrard admitted that the player has lost his focus(possibly due to the recent bid from Lille) and this was the main reason why he chose to snub the Colombian during their 2-0 win against Kilmarnock.
“I only want players who are hungry for the shirt,” said Gerrard, as per the BBC.
“If I see people who are not focused or who have taken their eye off the ball and not really, really hungry to get this football club results, I have to make easy decisions and Alfredo made it easy for me this week.
“We need players who work hard every single day and who are ready and focused for the challenges coming up.
“I want it to be difficult in every position. I want two good players in every position fighting for their places.”
Lille made an unsuccessful £16million bid for Alfredo Morelos but now that the striker seems to have fallen down the pecking order, Lille boss Christophe Galtier has hinted that his club are making plans to finalise his first-team squad as soon as possible.
He said, as reported: “The transfer window doesn’t worry me, it is what it is. It’s a particular situation this summer but I know what my president’s plans are.
“We’re working closely with Luis (Ocampos, sporting director) to make up for any departures. Every club is exposed, no one is immune to losing their good players.
“That’s why everything is planned out ahead of time for every position. If there are departures we’ll be ready. The sooner anything happens the better, that way we have time to work.”
With Alfredo Morelos seemingly falling down the pecking order, it’s clear that Lille are about to launch another bid for the 24-year-old and this time, Rangers FC will have no other option but to agree to a transfer.
