Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata playing for Chelsea

Chelsea brought in Alvaro Morata during the summer of 2017 and the Spaniard was supposed to be the replacement from Diego Costa who had a falling.

Unfortunately though, the forward failed to settle down at Stamford Bridge and during his first season with the club, he only managed to net 15 goals in 48 games for the Blues.

While this tally might not look so far especially for a player who has just arrived in the Premier League but most of these came against the so-called smaller sides as Alvaro Morata was constantly struggling to keep his place in the first XI.

The player ultimately headed back to Spain in order to join Atletico Madrid where he’s still playing and this season he has already managed to score 7 goals in just 13 games for the La Liga outfit.

And now in a pretty candid interview, Alvaro Morata has claimed that he wasn’t particularly happy with his life in England as he even failed to gain the trust and confidence for his fellow Chelsea team-mates.

“I’m happier now,” Morata said on COPE radio[as reported by ESPN].

“It wasn’t a good time in my football life, I’d stopped enjoying it. At times I didn’t believe in myself.

“I was playing some games in England and I had the feeling that when I got into space, my teammates looked at me and I knew they thought I wouldn’t do anything good with the ball,” he added.

“It was driving me crazy. I had a bad time.

“I’ve smashed my phone after games. I’ve got home and thrown it against a wall.

“I had a back injury. I went to Germany for treatment. Two days later I played, my back hurt again, I had a terrible game. I had all these messages on my phone saying ‘don’t worry, good times are coming’ and I threw it against the wall.”

Alvaro Morata has found a new lease of life ever since heading back to Spain but its no real surprise the forward failed to make a mark at Chelsea since he wasn’t really the first choice of the Blues.

The 27-year-old was supposed to join Man United from Real Madrid but the Red Devils eventually chose to make a move for Romelu Lukaku(the first priority target for Chelsea) which is why the Blues had to bring in Alvaro Morata instead.
