Arsenal lost to Newcastle United on Monday night and this has suddenly given Spurs an edge in securing the final Champions League spot on the table.

After the 2-0 loss, the Gunners have fallen two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur but according to Simon Jordan, neither of these two sides are Champions League material. The pundit has claimed that Arsenal and Spurs are still not ready to play in the top-tier and their inconsistency has been one of the main reasons why both of them are still fighting it out.

Jordan has told talkSPORT: “I think the fourth and fifth spot in this league this year is based upon two sides that are not good enough really to be in the top four under a normal regime of what a top four looks like.

“But because of the composition of the league this year, that’s why it’s been up and down.

“It wasn’t so long ago we were talking about Tottenham, we know what we’re going to get. Tottenham are gonna win, they’re gonna lose, they’re gonna win, they’re gonna lose.”

Are Spurs and Arsenal both very average sides?

Truth be told, apart from Liverpool and Manchester City, all the other top-six clubs have been very mediocre this season.

None of them have been consistent for significant portions of the season even just a few weeks ago, Manchester United and West Ham United were also in the top-four race.

Just last week, Arsenal were dreaming of finishing third on the Premier League table but now all of a sudden they might have to be content with a place in the Europa League and most of it has been because of the inconsistency from both the North London sides.

This season, Arsenal have lost 13 Premier League matches while Spurs have lost 11 and with such feeble numbers, you certainly do not expect to breeze into the Champions League.

Which team will secure the fourth position?

As things stand, Spurs look to be the ones who are going to mingle with the big boys next season because all they will need to do is pick up a win in the final matchweek.

Tottenham face Norwich City in their last match and they should be winning this one with the utmost ease. The Canaries have been relegated so there’s not much fight left in them right now.

Arsenal, on the other hand, will take on Everton and the Toffees are still running the risk of being relegated. They will need to pick up a win just to make sure they don’t fall down to the Championship so we expect the Toffees to throw the kitchen sink at Arsenal next weekend. Looking at how they performed against Newcastle, Arsenal can very easily crumble if Everton can manage to tighten the screws.
