Spurs, at the start of December, were sitting on top of the Premier League table but after just a few weeks they find themselves in the fifth spot.
The Lilywhites made a superb start to the 2020-21 season but have managed to pick up just one win in their last five outings. And this average form has forced Jose Mourinho’s side to drift six points off of league leaders Liverpool.
While Jurgen Klopp has time and again claimed that Spurs have what it takes to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title but according to pundit Perry Groves, the North London side are no better than a top-four side.
He told talkSPORT: “Tottenham have been brilliant on the counter-attack and Son and Kane have been so clinical, they’ve been taking two chances out of three or four.
“But you can’t keep putting your forwards under that much pressure, that can’t keep going on. You have to give them more ammunition and be more creative and be more on the front foot.
“Tottenham, realistically, I think they’re still battling for top-four.
“They could be in the top-four, no problem, but I never saw them as genuine title challengers.”
Spurs are still very much in the title race but they have some really tough matches over the next one and a half months. They face the likes of Wolves, Villa, Leeds and Chelsea in the coming weeks and there’s a big chance the London side might drop a few more points.
Spurs’ very much depend on Harry Kane and Son to pull them through and every time they don’t perform, the side looks very mediocre.
This exact same thing happened against Leicester City and if Jose Mourinho cannot tweak his formations then we really don’t think his side will be able to catch up with Liverpool in the coming months.
Liverpool, on the other hand, do not have only Spurs to worry about since only a few slip-ups and they themselves could fall out of the top-four.
