Atletico Madrid take on Liverpool in the Champions League this week and Diego Simeone’s side go into this match at the back of a fine win vs Barcelona.
Atletico was scheduled to play Granda during the weekend but that match got postponed meaning they have gotten an extended rest period before this high-profile encounter.
The last time these two sides met was back in the 2019-20 season and the Spanish side ended up winning both the legs, 1-0 and 3-2 respectively. While we can’t claim that Atletico Madrid will pick up all three points this time too but there’s no doubt they will provide a really stern test to Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Diego Simeone used a three-man defensive line vs Barcelona and we expect him to stick with this same formation against Liverpool as well. He has only a handful of injuries to deal with so naming a strong starting XI will not be a problem.

Jan Oblak obviously starts in goal but the defensive line up in front of him could see some changes.
Stefan Savic is suspended while Jose Gimenez is out injured with an abductor problem meaning Geoffrey Kondogbia and Felipe will come into the side, partnering Hermoso.
Koke will reprise his role in defensive midfield with Paul and Thomas Lemar playing a bit further up front.
Marcos Llorente is recovering from a hamstring injury and he could be an absentee for the Champions League clash. If he is not available then Kieran Trippier will play as the right wing-back with Carrasco playing on the other side.

Antoine Griezmann came off the bench to feature against Barcelona and the 30-year-old will have to be content with a place on the bench against Liverpool as well.
Luis Suarez and Joao Felix have been pairing up front for Atletico Madrid and this same arrangement will remain the same for the Liverpool game as well.
Atletico Madrid are winless in their previous four Champions League home games so the manager will definitely be under some pressure to get the record straight this week.
